In the winter the desires for cosy clothes and comfort food increases. Unfortunately, the effects of junk food and laziness are highlighted in the summer sun. By then it is too late. Here are some delicious winter snacks that will help you manage and prevent your winter weight gain.

  • Popcorn – 100 calories

A total of 6 cups of popcorn is equal to 100 calories. Additionally, this snack is high in fibre. It will keep you fuller for longer. Substituting chips with popcorn will already assist in weight loss.

  •  Carrots and hummus – 90 calories

This crunchy and nutritious snack is truly satisfying. Eight baby carrots and 2 tablespoons of hummus are equal to 90 calories. Baby carrots are easily available from the supermarket and they are packed with Vitamin A and beta carotene. Also, the hummus provides protein that also helps keep you satisfied and fuller for longer.

  • Yoghurt with honey – under 100 calories

This salad is ideal for days when you can’t control the munchies. Slice 1 large cucumber, add ½ chopped onion and 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar. This salad is under 100 calories.

For the nutty lovers, try 14 almonds. It is high in protein and fibre. It will definitely help to fight off the hunger.

  • Apple and peanut butter – 90 calories

Slice a ½ apple and use 2 teaspoons of peanut butter to spread on the apple slices. Use unsalted and unsweetened peanut butter as the apple slices are already sweet. This sweet and salty combination is truly satisfying.

  • Omelette in a mug – 100 calories

Whisk 1 large egg in a mug after you sprayed the mug with non-stick cooking spray. Add some salt and pepper to the mixture.  Microwave the mixture for approximately 45 seconds or until cooked. This high protein snack will definitely beat the hunger twinges.

  • Fruity one cup grapes OR blueberries – 100 calories

Eat 1 cup of grapes as a sweet snack and no preparation is needed. You can eat this snack fresh or frozen. It is also great for hydration and increases fibre intake.

  • Rice Cake with honey – under 100 calories

Take 1 brown rice cake which is high in fibre and low in fat. Spread a thin layer of ½ teaspoon honey or Vital Molasses on the brown rice cake. This treat will help to crave that sweet craving.
